R&D organizations supporting farming across diverse areas

Farming has a diverse range of needs, such as labor-saving strategies, stable harvesting and yield and quality improvement. The technical level demanded of farming-related materials is becoming more advanced. We provide total support for farming improvement with our diverse product lineup, which includes irrigation materials, seeds and seedlings, seed coat treatment, growing media and fertilizers, and technological R&D initiatives. In addition to using the experience and knowledge which we have built up over many years of research, we work to clarify the fundamental mechanisms of cultivation by approaching them from fields including physics, chemistry and physiology. Our center technology is constantly evolving, with the fundamental goal of “supporting farming”.

Our concern is mostly focused on how our products are used by customers. Sales representatives and developers frequently visit farms to confirm needs and evaluate products directly, and provide prompt feedback. When developing a new product, the feasibility of stable industrial manufacturing is an important factor. From the early stages of product development, developers collaborate with the manufacturing department to plan the process to mass production.
We also collaborate with universities, research institutes and companies in other industries, such as machinery manufacturers, and advance our R&D through a range of internal and external relations.

R&D Organizations

Technology Development Center (Within the Ehime Works of Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.)

The center collaborates closely with the sales and manufacturing departments (Ehime Fertilizer Works, Ehime Works) to develop technology and products with high added value in the fields of germination and seedling growth improvement technology, seed coating treatment technology, growing media for raising seedlings, and irrigation materials.

Experimental Stations (Sapporo, Fujimi, Kumamoto)

We opened experimental stations in Hokkaido, Honshu and Kyushu to acquire knowledge of cultivation environments in different climates, etc. The experimental stations conduct a range of tests and R&D, such as evaluating the performance of farming and irrigation materials, breeding and gathering new varieties, and developing new cultivation systems.
